Team Meeting, Art Meeting, Textures, 3D Assets
This week I attended two different meetings that solidified most of the level design and identified the assets that were needed per level. The meeting also went over story modifications and determining the most important aspects of the game to prioritize. The main goal of this week for me was to reinstall and download Maya in order to troubleshoot potential reasons why it was no longer working on my laptop. Fortunately, I was able to get it fixed and set up in enough time to produce some miscellaneous assets for the levels. Due to my location and also not using Maya for some time, the initial few attempts at creating assets took a bit of time but I soon developed a workspace to work at and all the Maya lessons from Freshman and Sophomore year came rushing back to me. I also spent time researching what kind of textures would be needed for the environment and assets, but I decided to only create a general list and focus on making those later this week once most of the assets were made. That way I can identify specific styles of textures and also match the general style of assets.
Hours Spent: 6 Hours
- Team Meeting: 1.5 hours
- Art Meeting: 2 hours
- Textures (research): 0.5 hours
- 3D Assets: 2 hours
Visual Sample:
I am extremely happy that I got Maya to work. I always wanted to spend some free time working on my modeling skills since it is quite a weakness for me. However, no matter what google told me to do, it never seemed to work. I don't have much experience modeling organic assets but I think I came up with some decent looking models.
What Went Wrong:
I am unhappy with how few models I made. I think I could do better especially if I can just find some more references to work from. I became comfortable using the shortcuts and controls after a little bit so I will definitely be faster this time. I think that if I am just more confident in whatever modeling skills I have currently and work from references and use creative alternatives, I will be able to make quite a few extra assets to use as decoration for the levels. Also what went wrong was the fact that I think that the larger crystal model has too many crystals emerging from the rock but also there's so many gaps at the base that I have to make sure that it won't look off when actually textured.
Plans for Next Week:
I plan on working more on whatever the team needs of me. I will work on creating various textures for the models, more 3D assets and editing the assets I created already, and possibly work more on the characters if I have additional time.
