Design/Art Meeting, Textures

This week the time and date for the art meeting was changed to Thursday during the Design meeting. I was able to attend the meeting this week and was able to make some progress on my own work for the game. I spent this week creating design textures for models that Ethan had created.

Hours Spent:  4.5 Hours

  • Design/Art Meeting: 1.5 hours
  • Textures: 3 hours

What Went Right:

The thing that went right this week is the overall appearance of the textures. I think they turned out well. I decided to design the textures using a cool toned blue design and a warmer red design in order to create variety within the scene. I thought the cooler blue tones in the buildings and water tower could provide interesting contrasts to the overall warm tone of the game. Also, Ethan was a pleasure to collaborate with and was extremely helpful overall.

What Went Wrong:

When I initially tried to create the textures, I tried to go off my own assumptions and did not double check the actual models. After enough confusion, I ended up asking Ethan if he could send me a screenshot of the buildings which he did promptly. There was a few elements I had included in some of the designs that I felt did not fit in with any of the other textures, mostly due to over-complicating the textures. I found that going back and forth with the textures as I was working on them, helped me to create a cohesive texture appearance. I also think I achieved a nice middle ground of detail without it being too detailed (an issue I initially had) and under detailed.

Plans for Next Week:

I plan on working more on whatever the team needs of me. I will work on creating various textures for the models I created, more 3D assets and editing the assets I created already, and possibly work more on the characters if I have additional time.
